How fast can you go? How much can you do? Everyday an agenda. Everyday work to be done, people to see, places to go.
When’s the last time you took a day, an hour, a minute to slow down, stop and look around? Look at your life. Look at all that you been given, all that you have accomplished. Smile at the fortunes; laugh and shake your head at the misfortunes.
They say as you get older life flies by even faster. Maybe it’s because without the academic-ladder we lose perspective of time. Maybe it’s because we have more responsibilities, pressures, and expectations to uphold. Whatever the rational, the truth remains the same. Life can easily become a blur.
There is so much power in slowing down, taking time for yourself and allowing for reflection and most importantly appreciation. It may take some conscious effort but unburying our heads from the sand is a freeing experience. When we take the time to look around, we refuel our mind, body and spirits. When we appreciate all that we have, we live happier and more fulfilled lives.
As I write, it is the early afternoon and I am still in my PJs. I decided to take a “me” day today…slow down, refuel and reflect. There was no snooze button to hit this morning because I chose to simply not set an alarm. I acknowledge that there are many “productive” things to do but they can wait. Today is about getting so much from not doing much at all.
It doesn’t matter if we’re busy with obligations such as work or if we’re on full speed “play” mode. Nonetheless, it’s still imperative to remind ourselves to take time to slow down, look around and reflect on our crazy, beautiful lives.
